Where Are They Now?

Lucy Sharp

Here's what Lucy had to say about life after Durham:
"I am doing a sports massage therapy qualification which I am really enjoying and coincidentally many of my friends and family have “sports” related injuries they would like me to practice on.

I am also applying for a masters in physiotherapy/rehabilitation therapy for next academic year. As for my sporting life, I have recently joined a triathlon club and I am continuing in rock climbing."

Throughout her time at Durham, Lucy was an important part of the team winning vital BUCS points and medals, becoming the first ever winner of the S15 category at BUCS!

Rachael Thompson

2022-23 womens captain
2021-22 general secretary
Hear's what Rachael had to say about grad life:

"After graduating this summer from a very intense (covid-disrupted) 4 years of Chemistry, I started teacher training in June and I'm now teaching science over in the Lake district. I moved to the lakes so that I could carry on my open water swimming alongside the stress of starting a new career! In summer I took part in several open water swims, which included swimming Ullswater and swimming in a disused quarry in Cornwall! I'm looking forward to coming back to Durham to see everyone at some point soon and hope the new season is going well!"

Kate Carter

2019-20 womens captain
Here's what she had to say about grad life:
"I graduated in June 2020 - I took the summer off and where I could (Covid permitting) I travelled around the UK with my boyfriend who had just moved over here from Australia. Then in October I began working in my current job which is in innovation and development for an insurance company in London. I moved to London in January 2021 and lived with friends in Brixton for 6 months. Now I live in Bermondsey with my boyfriend ☺️"

Jack Filer

2019-20 mens captain
Here's what Jack had to say about life after Durham:
"After graduating in 2020, I moved to London to start my job with Deloitte. Whilst enjoying life in the big city, I have been trying to squeeze in as many UK breaks as possible where restrictions have allowed and I am looking forward to my finally going overseas for a ski trip later in the year. I have also taken up golf, which is a far more expensive hobby than I realised, been studying for my professional exams and currently I have been looking into doing a MBA in the US. It’s been busy but I’ve loved every minute of it so far (apart from the long working hours) and I am really looking forward to visiting everyone in Durham when we get the chance!"

James Bailey

2018-19 mens captain
2019-20 S&C sec
Here's what James had to say about post-uni life:
"After finishing an intense 4 years at Durham I had a few months of R&R before deciding to do a part-time, distance-learning masters at Leeds. After a successful first year I'm beginning to plan the next steps of my post-uni GIS career. I've also started masters swimming, volunteered at a masters club, become a fully qualified swimming teacher and recently become a swim teacher @heathwoodswimming. Oh, and the highlight of it all was watching the Italians bring it home!"
