BUCS Long Course 2017!

durhamuniswimming

Between the 17th and the 19th of February DUSC took 16 swimmers to compete in BUCS long course, with competitors from across the country including a large contingent of Olympic athletes. There were some exceptional swims across the board with numerous personal best times as well as two finals! The first of which coming from the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay team, and the second coming from Danielle Gilbert in the 100m breaststroke.

The weekend began with some the heats of the relays on the Friday night; after the success of the men’s relay the team descended to the hotel where there was some team bonding and an early night ready for a long day of competing on Saturday! It was on Saturday that most of the team became starstruck (not excluding the boys) by Adam Peaty. Some of the team managed to catch the world record holder for a quick picture-a highlight of the weekend for many I’m sure! The team spirit from DUSC was unparalleled by any other team on poolside, a fantastic effort to go with our shiny new banner! At the end of a long day of competing the team descended onto a local restaurant for some well-deserved grub, with the boys rushing in after cooling down from their impressive performance in the final!

Sunday saw many more amazing performances from our swimmers, ending in an underwater photoshoot (see the video on our homepage) after cheering Dani on in her final! With aching bodies but high spirits the team boarded the coach back to Durham where the post BUCS social was held. Fines were handed out, with Calum and Jack impressively far ahead of the rest of the field! Some great shapes were thrown and there was lots of fun to be had even after the exhausting weekend! All in all a massively successive weekend!

Huge thanks and well done to all that took part!
