From the 14th to the 16th of November last year, DUSC competed at BUCS Short Course in Ponds Forge, Sheffield. Whilst it was many of the team's last Short Course, it was also the first time the anxious new Freshers- Graham Reveley, Alex Raey, Alastair Bingham, Rob Dorey, Alex Jenkins, Holly Mawby, Amy Williams, Abigail Metcalfe and Sophie Simpson, swam for Durham.

On the first main day of competing, the 2014-15 Captain Ruth Ewing kept everyone's spirits high and DUSC was the loudest and most supportive poolside team. Meanwhile, the older swimmers ensured the debuting Freshers were up to scratch in getting the club banner on poolside before the other teams arrived- if not, one of them has to wear the infamous pink leopardskin onesie which is not ideal in a burning hot stadium packed with hundreds of swimmers and spectators!

The second and third days ran much like the first with high morale and many team members competed in the relays, and others including future Captain Leah Altoft and ex-Commonwealth Games Swimmer Luke Belton, swam in the finals against international athletes such as Ben Proud.

It was an extremely successful weekend and after 3 days of #fastswimming the team retired to their favourite Wetherspoons for a final team meal. On the coach back everyone felt exhausted and ready to sleep, but the 2014-15 Social Secretary Grace Fletcher had an action-packed post BUCS social in store for everyone. Starting out at another DUSC favourite, the Union Society's 24s, and joined by team mascot Greg Smee, the extraordinary and imaginative 'fines' attributed to each swimmer were read out and reparations for them made.
